Milling is a part of the mining process. It is done to separate metal-bearing minerals from the waste materials to form a concentrate. This is often done through chemical treatments. After milling, smelting, and refining are done to extract metal from the ore.

Dewatering of mines is also a part of the mining process. Mine dewatering includes removing groundwater from the mines.
